Richard Norris - Mr Norris Changes Brains
He really does, you know...
Across four decades, Richard Norris has remained a restless presence on the outer edges of British music. From punk beginnings in St. Albans to acid house breakthroughs with The Grid and psychedelic experiments alongside Erol Alkan as Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, his career has always been defined by a thirst for sonic adventure.
On Mr Norris Changes Brains, he takes that spirit global. A kaleidoscopic collection of psych and dancefloor oddities, the compilation draws from dusty b-sides, private press rarities, and international gems—ranging from US fuzz to Turkish rock, Italian soundtracks, and Parisian club burners. These are tracks designed not just to blow minds but to move bodies, united by their raw grooves and boundary-pushing energy.
Some cuts, like Iron Butterfly’s heavy B-side “Theme,” are hiding in plain sight. Others, like A to Austr’s “Thumbquake and Earthscrew,” have only ever existed on ultra-rare pressings. But Norris brings them together into something coherent, celebratory, and defiantly alive. It’s a journey through time and space with the crate-digger’s crate-digger as your guide—blasting open the idea of what psychedelia can be, and who it’s for.
