Out tomorrow is Positive Mental Health Music, the utterly wonderful debut LP from Tiña and - as we said the other day - our November Record of the Month. Genuinely psychedelic, the album is unflinching in tone, not only talking about mental health, but actually conversing. Some serious grooves and some quite brilliantly wonky pop, it's an absolute revelation. Make forty minutes of time as soon as you can for this wonderful album, we dare anyone to say they didn't feel much better for listening to it.

Ground-breaking electronic musician Stefan Betke returns on Mute as POLE this week with the marvellous and dense Fading, our Record of the Week. Influenced by witnessing the effects of Alzheimers, this is minimalist music with a huge amount going on. Crackles and pops that sound both immediate and warm and brittle and cavernous throughout. A quite remarkable soundscape

Seamus Fogarty returns on Domino with his excellent new A Bag Of Eyes LP. He always brought a healthy slice of modern to traditional music, but there is a big step forward here. All sorts of smart and subtle electronic tones from drum machines and synths. His voice remains enthralling and this is an excellent set of songs to get stuck into.

Tunng Presents... DEAD CLUB. Not so much just an album return for Tunng, it's a huge project about the mind. The project has been 2 years in the making and features not just new songs but also an 8-part podcast series produced by the band featuring long-form interviews with experts, writers and thinkers in the field of grief, loss and philosophy. Fascinating without feeling isolated, we've really enjoyed getting quite lost in this.

Book Of Curses is the debut album from Adulkt Life, the supergroup of Huggy Bear’s Chris Rowley, Male Bonding’s John Arthur Webb and Kevin Hendrick, and drummer Sonny Barrett. Stark and full of gnar', with lush warm production. Can't rave about this one enough.

Noise rockers Hey Colossus return very much at full throttle with the excellent Dances / Curses on Wrong Speed Records. Full of drive, but also really quite hypnotising in its long drones. Nice double clear vinyl pressing too.
Lupin is the (almost) self-titled debut solo LP from Hippo Campus' Jake Luppen. Really smart pop this, sounds huge but still handcrafted. Really good.

Powerful new spiritual jazz from Chile... Yeah, we are down!! Enrique Rodríguez & the Negra Chiway Band release Fase Liminal on Soul Jazz. Only had one chance to blast this once through in full, but it is superb. Elements of film soundtracks amongst the spiritual haze.
Also this week we have: Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds' new some kind of peace on Mercury KX, The See Within from exquisite instrumentalists Echo Collective, the dreamy Horse from Estonia’s Holy Motors on Wharf Cat Records, Ethan P Flynn's really fantastic B-Sides & Rarities on Young Turks, Palace Winter and a new standard edition of Nicolas Jaar's pounding Cenizas LP.
All of us at Drift love Sarah Davachi. She's a real favourite here in the shop, and her latest offering is quite the peach: hours upon hours of live recordings and variations of her Cantus, Descant album. This is a right joy to mentally go wandering in.
Soul Jazz are delivering the goodness, as ever. Next week we'll have a Gilles Peterson and Stuart Baker-curated Cuban (Experiments in Latin Music 1975) compilation landing, but to advance it this week, we have a 12" coffee table book of record sleeve art from the project. This really is a treat.
We're also pinching ourselves to have a fourth installation of their amazing Deutsche Electronische Musik series. German electronic and Krautrock groups from the 1970s and 80s including; Can, Amon Duul II, Harmonia, Conrad Schnitzler, Agitiation Free, Roedelius... As well as a host of lesser known artists such as; Dzyan, Klauss Weiss, Gruppe Between and many more. Guys, this is a must have.
Pretty thrilled to have the self-titled Flaming Tunes album reissued on Superior Viaduct, including an indie exclusive edition with alt art and pressed on clear vinyl. Do check this one out, its an amazing backstory to this one. Childhood friends Gareth Williams (This Heat) and Mary Currie come together as adults to make just one album of an experimental home-recording odyssey influenced by travelling the globe, only available on cassette, Until now.
Anna Von Hauswolf's excellent second album Ceremony gets a fresh pressing on blue and black marbled vinyl. Played this at max vol to celebrate, amazing stuff.
Visions in Black and White is a collection of rare jazz and improvised themes by one of the greatest Russian film composers Mikael Tariverdiev. Another superb release on Earth Recordings.
Wilco's Summerteeth turned 21 this year and gets a very handsome deluxe edition to celebrate. A box edition (that looks dope) with a five-LP set featuring the remastered studio album as well as the unreleased demos, alternates and outtake recordings pressed on 180-gram vinyl.
At 91 years old, Dave Brubeck recorded peerless takes on best-known children’s songs, beloved standards, and originals as a gift to his grandchildren and as his last studio recording, Lullabies.
Return to Greendale is the next instalment in Neil Young’s Performance Series and features a concert (audio and on film) from the historic and unique 2003 tour supporting the release of the Neil Young with Crazy Horse album Greendale. Some big ol' riffs here.
Sacred Bones are working through the Mort Garson vaults (you'll remember how hard we tripped out to Mother Earth's Plantasia). Some really excellent avenues to check out here, all pressed on nice colours too.
We close out this week with a fifteenth anniversary (has it already been fifteen years?) edition of British Sea Power's Open Season. This expanded reissue will include additional live sessions, B-sides and rarities from the period and extensive new sleeve notes. BSP still sounding utterly irresistible the second time around.
A reminder that Drift is now closed physically to the public for November 2020 and likely some time after that. We're safely working behind closed doors at the shop, so any of you wanting Click & Collect, we can gladly keep doing this for you. We're looking at this period as a long-overdue opportunity to keep on refining the website. And as we speak, loads of restocks are landing, plus new goods, plenty of amazing books and we'll be having a few Dinked announcements this side of Black Friday. We're going to keep it essential over here.
