ROTW: Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Jeffrey Lewis, Squid and WXAXRXP.

Ok campers, rise and shine! — and don't forget your booties 'cause it's cooooooold out there today.

Hello, Friends.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy always keeps busy. Recently covering his own songs alongside those of Susanna Wallumrod, the Mekons, Merle Haggard and also collaborating to dreamy effect with Bitchin Bajas. But I Have Made a Place is his first set of original BPB songs since Wolfroy Goes To Town back in 2011. Our Record of the Week features guest appearances from Nathan Salsburg, Joan Shelley and drummer Mike Hyman, which make for a deliciously full sound, but this album is all about Will Oldham’s voice, which is just spectacular.

Jeffrey Lewis, one of the most extraordinary voices in contemporary music, returns with his new outfit The Voltage for the euphoric and highly addictive Bad Wiring. His delivery remains rabid, essays crammed into verses, covering an ever more poignant range of topics and observations with an encyclopaedic set of pop and alt culture references. Dogs Of My Neighborhood - speaking as someone who questions dogs in general - is an absolute peach of a track, and album centrepoint LPs could be his finest moment yet. Immediate, charming and perhaps the best delivery to date from one of the very most singular voices.

+ Available now, the last few Bad Wiring Dinked Editions:

+ Exclusive Pale Blue coloured vinyl.
+ Exclusive Die Cut cover.
+ Bonus 7” (2 additional tracks ONLY available on Dinked Vinyl).
+ Artworked inner bag.
+ Sticker Sheet insert.
+ Numbered Edition of 500.

We've said it so many times that we're worried you're not all listening hard enough: Squid are one of the best new bands we've heard in years. The post-punk, disco-funk phenomenon release a new EP this week called Town Centre via Dan Carey’s Speedy Wunderground label, the first ever EP from the legendary singles label. Absolutely life-affirming stuff this, don't miss out as we don't have too many left. Essential stuff.

On the summer solstice 2019 the extended Warp family came together with online radio station NTS to celebrate the label’s 30th anniversary. With over 100 hours of original music programming, the weekend-long communion featured mixes, documentaries, live performances, film and sessions from the whole Warp roster. WXAXRXP Sessions features ten specially selected sessions recorded for radio from across the history of the label, from the very early days right up to the WXAXRXP x NTS weekend. In the age of immediate, unelected, often low-quality rips of anything that is broadcast, these releases present each session in the highest quality, adorned in beautiful packaging designed by Michael Oswell.

Exclusive and very limited, the set includes Aphex Twin, Flying Lotus, Boards Of Canada, Bibio, Plaid, Mount Kimbie, Oneohtrix Point Never, LFO, Kelly Moran and Seefeel.

Three years on from their last album proper, singer Stuart Staples decided Tindersticks’ return called for something special and No Treasure but Hope is the result.

+ Limited indie version pressed on clear coloured vinyl and housed in a die-cut sleeve.

Dog In The Snow is the moniker of Brighton-based artist Helen Ganya Brown. Her debut Vanishing Lands is a haunting and quietly euphoric collection of dream-pop. Really absorbing.

+ The LP is in clear vinyl and includes a download code.

Birthed with the exclusive 7" included in our Dinked Edition, Toy return with Songs Of Consumption, an 8-song collection of unique interpretations of tracks which have inspired the band.

+ Indie edition LP on cream opaque vinyl.

Devastation is the second full-length album from Pumarosa. Working with St Vincent producer John Congleton in LA, they were joined by Tool bassist Justin Chancellor for the recording.

Black Space Tapes is the debut album on StonesThrow Records from 20-year-old jazz prodigy Jamael Dean. Been playing this a lot this week already, super exciting stuff.

Captured Tracks have fired the Christmas Starter's Pistol with Austin chanteuse Molly Burch's Christmas Album. Gold vinyl pressing too!

A whole world of reissues this week with some very special editions.

The Raconteurs reissue Broken Boy Soldiers on Third Man; black 180g vinyl with a limited, copper-embossed, gatefold tip-on sleeve.

Tony Visconti's 2019 Mix of David Bowie's Space Oddity gets a release this week, including some randomly-inserted colour editions... We have no idea how to tell, before you ask.

Double Dr. Dre drop, with both the Instrumental and Explicit editions of his double 2001 album getting very rare pressings.

The Twilight Sad release Killed My Parents And Hit The Road on vinyl for the first time. We sold out of these, but a few more now in stock.

The always-essential Awesome Tapes from Africa release Antoinette Konan's eponymous 1986 LP. The singer, composer, percussionist and women's rights activist is music industry royalty in Ivory Coast.

The Band

Loads more new not new, with some seminal editions right here.

A set of really nice editions to celebrate The Clash's London Calling. The CD and 2LP editions are in a Special Sleeve edition with a clear over-case. London Calling Scrapbook edition is on CD with a hardback book of images and extras.

During their short time together as a band (1968 – 1972), Creedence Clearwater Revival enjoyed an unparalleled period of creativity; releasing seven studio albums (two of which went to number one), playing over 150 tour dates around the world, including a headlining spot at Woodstock, and scoring 14 top-ten singles. This week we have half-speed remasters of the superb Green River and Willy And The Poor Boys. Both are pressed on audiophile-quality 180-gram vinyl and housed in original replica jackets.

Another fine volley of Blue Note reissues this week with both volumes of Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers' Meet You At The Corner Of The Jazz WorldThe Horace Silver Quintet's live album Doin’ The Thing and Grant Green's much-sampled Alive!

A really nice Two Tone celebration, with a special pack containing twelve 7" singles. It really is a lush package, presented with their original sleeve designs in a bespoke 1960’s style carry case along with a Two Tone 7” slipmat and an art card hand signed by Jerry Dammers from The Specials. Limited and running out fast.

Ending this week on an absolute solid gold classic. Released on the 22nd September; 1969, the eponymous second studio effort by The Band is a concept album, with the songs focusing on people, places and traditions associated with an older version of Americana. The 2CD and 2LP editions feature a new stereo mix of the album by Bob Clearmountain, the previously unreleased complete “Live At Woodstock” performance from 1969, and thirteen bonus tracks including six previously unreleased outtakes and alternate versions. Essential and sounding fantastic at fifty years old.

Okay... We're going to email you about something early tomorrow morning... So keep your eyes peeled for that.
