Real nice ‘spinning’ news to combat all this bleak rolling news…

Hello, Friends.

Endure is the Rough Trade Records debut for New Orleans no-wave punk band Special Interest and it’s a total riot! Self-produced, it broadly inhabits a space between punk and clattering dance music with proper high energy. Wide-reaching social and political commentary in the songs, they use the power of the music to create an inclusive and embracive vibe. Record of the Week and a highly recommended tip to jolt these cold early November days into life!

+ Available on Indie Exclusive Yellow colour vinyl.

+ All LP orders will include a bonus "Midnight Legend" 7” single.
+ We have signed postcards whilst stocks last.

Where I'm Meant To Be is the new LP from UK jazz outfit Ezra Collective and it’s really good fun! They have always shown such musical flex and unity, but this latest LP welcomes in guests including Sampa The Great, Kojey Radical, Emile Sandé, Steve McQueen and Nao to really keep things rolling. It’s a party album, infectious pop hooks and trips through style and genre. They make it all sound easy when it’s a lot less obvious and carefree than it feels. Super fun.

+ All LP orders will include a signed print.
+ Available on double Indie Exclusive Orange colour vinyl.
+ Available on double Deluxe Orange and Yellow Marbled colour vinyl in a gatefold sleeve.

Ezra Collective - Where I'm Meant To Be

Daniel Avery
truly is in a purple patch. Including the lush ‘Illusion of Time’ collaboration with Alessandro Cortini, this week’s new Ultra Truth album follows Love + Light and ‘Together in Static’ as his fourth release in two years. The production is just amazing, incredible sound design that is as rich in texture as about anything we've heard all year. A self-described “fever dream” of an album; whether it’s in ‘up’ or ‘pensive’ modes, this is one to totally get lost in; it’s quite brilliant.

Voids is the LP from Texas-based producer John Mark Lapham under the name Old Fire. He was a member of The Earlies (who were fantastic if you want a little bit of listening homework) and the spooky magic here is really impressive, with Bill Callahan, Emily Cross, Adam Torres and Julia Holter all adding vocals to the ambience and low tempo, baroque-pop, alt-country sounds. Some dark treasure here.

Iconic Soul Man Lee Fields has reunited with Daptone Records and producer Gabriel Roth to record Sentimental Fool; a deep, blues-tinged, soul album. He really sounds amazing, holding notes just long enough to show off that amazing vocal texture. Really legit.

+ Available on Indie Exclusive Orange colour vinyl.

Voices of Bishara is a really (really) beautiful new album from drummer and producer Tom Skinner (of The Smile and Sons of Kemet). Such inventive playing, this has high spiritual jazz energy.

A couple of Dinked Editions on the racks this week.

Firstly, Unison Life is the pounding new LP from the Belgian post-hardcore band Brutus. They keep such focus without seeming like they’re bludgeoning you. Really good. This one was held up in customs, so thanks for bearing with us there.

Second Day Of Spring is an introspective and deeply moving debut from Colorado-based twin sisters, Companion. We’ve had a copy of this for quite a while and played it loads. Some genuine sadness in the music, but there is such a remarkable quality to their voices, not to mention the excellent songs. Really love this one.

It’s a week with loads of beautiful voices actually… Swedish sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg return with Palomino, their fifth studio record as First Aid Kit. We have limited White colour vinyl copies. The Milk Teeth EP compiles singer-songwriter Suki Waterhouse’s various non-album singles onto a physical release for the first time. Australian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Carla Dal Forno releases Come Around, rich in dreamy haze. Slightly later than we first said, Old Kind Of Magic is the swooning and warm new LP from duo Native Harrow.

Miss Power is the new album from a totally reinvigorated Connie Constance. A really honest and melodic set, she cherry picks pop, punk and other ideas to great effect.

+ Available on Indie Exclusive Red colour vinyl.

Julien Chang
returns with the wistful new The Sale album on Transgressive. A great songwriter, this is another one with all sorts of tones and ideas that blur to great effect. Pressed on Crystal Clear colour vinyl.

MK 3.5: Die Cuts | City Planning is a new double album from Mount Kimbie, with the duo taking a side each; Dom Maker turning his hand to the "colourful and melody-led" Die Cuts and Kai Campos creating the "tactile and unpredictable" City Planning half.

+ Available on Indie Exclusive Clear colour vinyl.

London-based international punk quartet Ghost Car release their debut album Truly Trash via One Little Independent Records. Some real wit and hell of a lot of energy.

+ Available on Indie Exclusive Translucent Violet colour vinyl.

Produced with Steve Albini, Riderless Horse is the first new album in over a decade from the much-revered Nina Nastasia. Raw and stripped right back, this one is really powerful stuff and although stark and at times harrowing, it really is masterful.

+ Available on ‘Crystal Clear with Double Black High-Melt’ colour vinyl.

Pye Corner Audio
and Sonic Cathedral release a limited EP of remixes by Spacemen 3 legend Sonic Boom. A poppin’ 10” single! We just put the last copies in stock.

Lastly today, Back Home is the absolutely smashing return of Black feminist punk trio Big Joanie. This one is such a bold step forward, a vision of high art punk with a real smartness to the structures and production. It blazes, it goes down tempo, it’s a real trip!

Unfortunately the LP has encountered production issues and has been delayed into January, but CDs are out now and are essential listening!

We’ll be talking about reissues next week, including; a deluxe edition of Just Mustard’s Heart Under, The Prodigy, RIDE, Tinariwen, Bobby Hutcherson, Maximo Park and lots more!
