ROTW: Erland Cooper, Thee MVPs, The Cool Greenhouse, Flying Lotus, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Christine and the Queens.

Seeing off what has been a glorious May with one last week of new music.

Hello, Friends.

We have three Dinked editions released today, all gloriously different and all three fine additions to what we've been building over the last couple of years with our shop network.

Edition number 46 is Hether Blether, the third and final album in a trilogy of releases from Erland Cooper, shaped by the islands where he grew up in the archipelago of Orkney in Scotland. We have selected it as our Record of the Week and have been enjoying getting lost in its sweeping dramatics and intimate textures. It really is beautifully assembled, a personal but very giving peice of work. Very highly recommended indeed.

Edition number 48 is Science Fiction, the debut long player from Thee MVPS. Released on their own label, it takes cues from all of their favourite labels; SST, In The Red, Au Go Go, Goner, Stiff, Castle Face, Dischord... you know, the good ones!! The Leeds based trio manage to pay homage to their influences without sounding like a tribute act. They have a really fierce drive to them and Science Fiction is full of bangers.

Edition number 49 is the self titled debut from The Cool Greenhouse. Another young band we're very excited about, they were in fact our 2020 emerging talent winners and would have been with us at Sea Change. They have found some new space in winding post-punk. Funny, bleak and really addictive.

Christine

School of X is the new project from Rasmus Littauer, Mø’s drummer and musical director. His debut LP Armlock finds a really great space between indie and shimmering pop.

Staying in the pop realm, the immaculate Christine and the Queens returns with La vita nuova. The EP has a great flow to it with searching and wistful production. The title track with Caroline Polachek is something special. This first pressing of the 12" EP is on Pink vinyl.

One year on from Flamagra, the incomparable Flying Lotus releases Flamagra [instrumentals], an album that shines a light on Flylo’s untouchable arrangements and production. In this hazy heat we have been trippin to this all week, magical stuff. The double Black  LP comes with a custom turntable powered psychedelic zoetrope slipmat and labels designed by Drew Tetz. We'll try and post a video... it is AMAZING.

Chunky Shrapnel is a feature-length motion picture that follows King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's adrenaline-inducing onstage performances from the perspective of the band. The film is accompanied by this double LP featuring the music from the film, all recorded throughout the band's 2019 European tour. Pressed on gold vinyl.

Aldous RH releases the super funky Respect 4 Devotion on Moshi Moshi. It's got such a lush combination of tight pop sounds and nice blurry analogue production. Pressed on Azure Blue vinyl.

Harmony Avenue is the debut album by Jade Hairpins. Jonah Falco and Mike Haliechuk of Jade Hairpins also perform together in Canadian outfit Fucked Up. Loads of choppy textures (squelchy acid beats, jangling no-wave guitars, baggy vocals) with a real nice pace.

A very welcome return from Psychic Markers, with their self-titled, third full length album on Bella Union. It has a really great pace throughout, quietly euphoric. Our indie version is pressed on limited orange coloured vinyl.

Human Contact is the debut album from The Howl & The Hum, produced by Jolyon Thomas (Royal Blood, Slaves, U2). Really massive this one, going to make a lot of folks tearful for the lack of stadiums in 2020.

PINS release their third full length LP Hot Slick, via their own Haus of Pins label. Pumping bleeps and beats, it's really easy to lock into. Been playing this A LOT on these sunny afternoons. Indies only edition LP on Transparent orange vinyl.

Nocturne [live at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival] comprises three pieces performed live on a partly prepared piano, along additional pre-recorded soundscapes from Can co-founder and Drift inspiration Irmin Schmidt. The 2LP is Limited to 1000 copies worldwide on Double white vinyl. Side D etched. High definition audio included via download code

We mentioned earlier in the week that we'd have Nicolas Jaar's AGAINST ALL LOGIC 2017-2019 and super limited Illusions Of Shameless Abundance/ Alucinao 12". BIG OLD BEATS.

She's not actually here yet, and we've not heard much of it either yet, but Lady Gaga will be dropping Chromatica on us shortly. Don't miss out on the limited indie shop silver vinyl.

BIKE SHOP

A lush reissue this week on Capture Tracks, with Wild Nothing's debut Gemini getting a 10th Anniversary Edition. Full disclosure, totally blew it on ordering enough stock, but hoping to be adding more to the website this afternoon.

Mac Miller's posthumous Circles album has finally landed on a handsome looking double vinyl edition (it debuted digitally back in January).

65daysofstatic's We Were Exploding Anyway gets a 10th Anniversary edition on Hassle Records. The release is accompanied by the first ever vinyl pressing of the Heavy Sky EP. Both slabs of wax are coloured. Hardly any of these so please don't miss out.

Blanck Mass presents the original score to the acclaimed Calm with Horses on Invada Records. So intense, really hyped to see this film. Pressed on White And Black Marbled Vinyl.

The indie shop white vinyl pressing of The 1975's Notes On A Conditional Form is in the building. We have some very limited prints and will be shipping those out today. A reminder that we are running competitions on Twitter and Instagram to win a signed test pressing. We'll do that draw over the weekend.

A lot to take in, loads of limited editions to get clicking on. There is playlist for you to enjoy on our blog, we'll tweet the link out too. Hope you enjoy the sun as best you can, tell us what you're up too... we really do like being in touch.
